Yes, currently the Scout monitors gathers data and sends it via WiFi to the Scout platform. Please ensure you have WiFi at your home / business (and know the password) before booking a Scout installation. The Scout unit is linked to your local WiFi by the Scout installer.
Yes, the Scout S3 can measure 3 phase. We use a CT clamp per phase. Currently we can size a 3 phase system up to 500A per phase.
Scout installers are independent solar installers that use Scout hardware and software to increase accuracy when designing solar systems. The installers on the platform all have a 2 year track record in the solar industry with successful installations under their belt. We also recommend that they complete the PV Greencard accreditation. We will indicate if the recommended installer has completed his PV Greencard.
The Scout S3 has 3 current clamps. We can thus measure your mains, your geyser circuit and your stove/oven circuit. When we size a solar system it is possible to deduct the geyser and stove usage from the Mains. The solar system size is then calculated on remaining consumption. This ensures the best value for money. Putting a geyser and stove on your solar system will increase the system size a lot and will be very expensive. It is best to reduce consumption as far as possible and then design a solar system for the remaining appliances.
It is important to decide what you would like to achieve by switching to solar. Do you want power during load-shedding? Do you want to save on your energy bill? Do you want to live a more sustainable life? The most common systems are:

A Scout energy monitor is a smart device that connects to your home’s distribution board. The device connects via current clamps that can measure the electricity that flows in your home’s circuits. It sends this data (via WiFi) to the Scout platform. The data is used by the solar installer to size the perfect solar system for your home, taking your unique consumption profile and budget into consideration. Investing in a solar system is a big decision, Scout ensures that you invest in the correct size solar system that suits your lifestyle. Don’t let a unreliable solar system become the next Eskom in your life.
